I'm bracing myself...

...for the show the Republicans are going to put on. I'm not talking about their convention, I'm talking about how they are going to overreact over Gustav. I hope it doesn't hit NOLA, but it looks like it probably will. They are going to try to take over the airwaves with their crap and act like they give a shit this time, to try to make up for last time. I think they've sent Skeletor down there already, the head of what used to be FEMA. This time the world will be watching as it happens, not just the aftermath (anybody remember Bush in Jackson Square, with the blue lights shining up on the church in the background, that were turned off and removed after he spoke, since there was no power).

I hope the best for the city and its residents. I've had some of the best times ever there, and it's just sad to think that this time might be the clincher. I mean, it would take a WPA-level investment to do the engineering needed to put the Mississippi back like it was, and I just don't see that, with all the money funneling out of this country to "projects" in other parts of the world. Sigh.
